Revolution, socialism and colonialism have left a mix of graceful historic buildings and Che
Guevara murals along with old Buicks, all-inclusive hotels and gorgeous sandy beaches. No Caribbean
country is so much itself, so dynamic, hectic and vivid … salsa and mambo, rum, cigars
and street intrigue… the indomitable spirit of the Cuban people.
Havana is an authentic city with infectious energy and gracefully restored piazzas along with
aromatic coffee houses, late night cabaret and crumbling tenements. Trinidad de Cuba is perfectly restored
Colonial charm with cobblestones, ornate ironwork and pastel houses, a short drive from
a lovely beach. Varadero is a 20km sweep of pale sand with shallow blue seas, a magnet to
holidaymakers, with plenty to do and Cuban-style luxury (we know where). But don’t miss our enclave
of ‘charme’ in Bahía de Naranjo Natural Park (near Holguin) – overlooking a lovely beach
and spectacular coral reef with underwater tunnels, caves and cliffs, and brilliantly colourful
underwater life.
