Civilization upon civilization has settled on the islands of the archipelago, and each has developed
an individual and colourful culture. Over 1000 years ago the highly civilized Javanese
were building monuments like Borobudur, jewel of Eastern art. On extravagantly fertile Bali, an
ancient form of Hinduism has left a heritage of temples and rituals among its peaceful people:
silversmiths, painters, batik artists are in profusion, and shopping irresistible. Moyo is a remote
island lying off the coast of Sumbawa, surrounded by beautiful coral reefs. Covered with jungle
and savanna, it is home to wild pig, monitor lizards, herds of native deer and hordes of bright
macaques.
